You may recall getting me the first-generation iPhone for my birthday, which I still have.
I do what I can to get the longest life out of my phones, like getting durable cases that can withstand wear and tear and avoiding mishaps like dropping them into a toilet or from several stories high.
It's dubious that smartphone companies intentionally slow a device's performance through system upgrades, forcing us to buy new ones.
It reminds me of the directions on shampoo bottles that say to use the product frequently and to "rinse and repeat."
Oh my goodness, I completely forgot about getting that phone. And I'm impressed that you've hung on to it all this time! Yes, the planned obsolescence purposely baked into these devices is frustrating to say the least!
It's good old capitalism. And it's also the reason Japanese automakers got a foothold in our country once American car companies started to make cars with built-in obsolescence. Of course, we all have a choice to switch to another brand. But Apple makes it extremely difficult to disengage and disentangle from them once all our devices are connected to their products and services.
