I wonder how the public would respond if the popcorn industry (I'm assuming there is such a thing) were to market their product as a health food when prepared with the minimal ingredients you mentioned.
Reducing cell damage and Alzheimer's risk while benefiting GI function would make great selling points.
I totally agree with you that such marketing would make for a great selling point. However, like many other snacks, I think many Americans don't really care that they're eating what is a very healthy snack in its purest form in an unhealthy way. They want their buttered popcorn--period! And therein lies the problem.
