NYPD MUST NOW REPORT RACE OF PEOPLE THEY STOP!

News Flash

A controversial new transparency law now requires NYPD officers to record the race, gender and age of anyone they stop.

This is very interesting. There are pros and cons to each side. I can see why it might deter police from stopping and questioning someone just because they don't "look like they belong" in a particular neighborhood. And I can understand officers not wanting to have any more "paperwork" to deal with. It'll be a good experiment for us to watch.

Thank you as always for your thoughtful comments. I totally agree with you on this. It is certainly worth watching because I could easily see Los Angeles doing this at some point.

I agree with Slipstream, too. We wouldn't need such a policy if all people were respected equally. Too often, law enforcement officers profile people, and I've seen certain people treated with horrible disrespect due to their race. That has to stop. If this helps, great. As MLK once said: "It may be true that the law cannot change the heart but it can restrain the heartless." This may be one such restraint.
