Great article with an important reminder. Whatever we consume, either physically or mentally, will fill us out and shape who we become. I know this well. But what I don't understand is why people continue to consume horrible, vile stuff. Some people believe that all the crazy in the world is a part of life and more fascinating than the norm--so there's the temptation to indulge regardless of how it may influence or harm them. So much of entertainment today shoves the worst of humanity in our face. Record numbers of young people around the world have become nihilists as a result. Can't we do better? Why not Beauty In/Beauty Out instead of Garbage In/Garbage Out?

Just like our bodies, our minds can only take in just so much junk food before it rebels. Having a balanced diet of wholesome, healthy mind food means less stress and more peace. Give some love, get some love—that's the key to our well-being.

Perhaps the parts of the brain that are "turned on" by the junk mental food—news, certain social media content, etc., are the same that drew legions of audience members to the Colosseum for gladiator battles and butchery, and fill the seats at boxing matches and combat sports today.
Our psychology seems drawn to darkness. Since the inception of "the news," be it in print, radio, TV, or online, it's typically led with the bad stuff.
