Day of Action!

News Flash

Happy Harvester’s slim pickers (volunteers) showed up early in east Long Beach and harvested 300 lbs. of fresh oranges at the home of Maddie and Dennis Stephens.

The Stephens’ turtle, Henry the 8th, keenly observed the picking but remained tranquil and unvexed. Once the oranges were safe in their crates, next-door neighbor Dana, allowed her flock of chickens to trespass the property and inspect the loot, but the flock seemed more interested in pecking the grass.

The weather was great, we were all in good spirits, and felt gratified knowing our efforts were for a great cause.

It was such an amazing day and together we succeeded with such a formidable tree. The tallest tree I’ve ever helped pick. No doubt the ripe, sweet, very juicy oranges are now being enjoyed. And waste not. Oranges that split during the picking process were juiced. 🍊🧡

I enjoyed meeting Don and Henry the 8th. It was a very fun and purposeful community event, and I loved being the lucky recipient of a Happy Harvesters hat and brand new fruit picker!
